Kristen Neil's Laid Back and Trendy Style

November 15, 2016

Kristen Neil shares her go to looks and her ambition to grow Kristen Neil as a brand. She throws together the latest trends with her own personal touch to showcase her effortless style.

Q: Where are you from? What inspired you to start blogging/being involved in fashion?

A: I’m originally from White Rock, B.C. I was inspired to start blogging after I graduated from University. I went straight from high school into University to get it all done, and realized through the whole process I actually had other interests and passions in life but rushed into picking a degree because it was “the right thing to do”. It was afterwards when I graduated that I had more time to explore my passions and grow as a person that I realized I wanted to start a blog. I was inspired by a lot of bloggers around me and I’ve always been into fashion and expressing my personal style whether it be what I’m wearing or how I decorate my room, I’ve always paid attention to the little details in making something my own. Today blogging has turned into a really fun outlet and hobby for me to continue to grow and create a space to share things that I love.

Q: Who are your top 3 favourite fashion bloggers your follow?

A: Monika Hibbs, Jillian Harris, Christine from Hello Fashion

Q: What did you study in university? Do you see a future being involved in fashion?

A: I studied Human Kinetics in University. I think it’s funny because Human Kinetics and Blogging about Fashion and Lifestyle are two very different things, but I think going into University I was already very unsure of what I wanted to do and going straight out of high school didn’t really help as I think not everyone knows exactly what they want then (at least that’s how I feel) and even now I am not certainly 100% sure of what the future looks like for me but let's be honest, who does? As for a future being involved in fashion, I would love to continue growing my blog by sharing my personal style and see where that road takes me for now.

Q: What is your go-to outfit? In one sentence how would you describe your style?

A: Right now for fall- I love to layer, Ripped jeans a sweater and a t-shirt with a scarf layered on top paired with ankle booties is definitely a go-to look for me. I would say my style is laid-back and casual on an everyday basis but I love to stay with the latest season trends and throw my own twist to them.

Q: Where are your favourite stores to shop?

A: I love to shop at Zara, Aritzia, ASOS, Urban Outfitters, Nordstrom and H&M for some great basic pieces at a good price.

Q: Name 2 celebrities who’s style you admire and why?

A: Kendall Jenner - she has great style and I always admire her effortless laid back street style looks.

Olivia Palermo - she just always looks great, she pulls off everything she wears with a classic yet on trend look.

Q: What do you see yourself doing in the next 5 years? How will you continue to grow your social media accounts and grow Kristen Neil as a brand?

A: In the next 5 years I see myself continuing to grow my blog. Along the social media line, I’ve been trying to think of new ways to grow it- there’s so much content out there, I want to focus on staying true to what I like and presenting it in my personal style. I would love to continue to grow and connect with more clothing companies and brands. I’ve been doing a little bit of this already on a smaller scale with a few companies and I’ve really enjoyed it because it is so fun to work with brands you truly love and stand behind. Locally I have had the chance to collaborate with Ginger Lily a clothing store in Kelowna by styling and featuring their clothes on my social media and blog. It has been a really fun experience, and I would love to do more projects like it in the future.

Q: What are your strategies for taking a good Instagram photo? What apps do you use?

A: It has to be daylight, as much natural light as possible always creates the best photos no matter what you are photographing. I process my photos for Instagram by simply using the Instagram editor and filters, I try to stick with two of the same filters for each photo in my feed to create a more streamlined look.

Q: Do you get a lot of shops/advertisers sending you products to promote? If so can you talk about this for a bit?

A: Yes, I have had a few shops/companies send me products and I have also denied products as well because I felt they were not a good fit for my self and my style. If I personally would not wear or use a product I’m not going to promote it, because at the end of the day I want to create content that is true to my style and inspires my followers.

Q: Do you have anything else you want your viewers to know about you?

A: Starting my blog was actually a really big step for me I debated it for quite a while and thought about what it would look like if I did. I think one of my main concerns was what other people would think, and then I finally decided that should not hold me back and I just went for it and I’m so glad I did. My blog has turned into a really great creative outlet for myself and I truly enjoy sharing bits and pieces of my personal style with my viewers and I hope they do to!
