Review of Safe & Sound Music Fest 2018

September 7, 2018

The Safe & Sound Music Fest took place on August 24&25 in Vancouver at Westminster Park. This festival played host to an impressive lineup of R&B and hip-hop driven local and international talent.

Sophia Danai had an amazing opening, great back up dancers which showcased her great vocal range. Her Guns and Gold Video also just released on August 23 so make sure to check that out as well as her EP coming out soon called "Realize."

DJ Flipout did a great job of hosting, making everyone excited for the next acts to come. So Loki had another great performance, hyping the crowd up with HBO and enticing the audience so much that everyone was packed up right to the front of the stage for Razor Thin. Geoff provided great backing with the guitar as well as a cool projection by Chrome Destroyer.

Manila Grey opened up with "Timezones" and this got everyone excited and the crowd was singing along. Sabrina Claudio hit the stage with a sultry and sexy vocal performance, hitting every note and drawing the audience in. Vince Staples performed another bang on performance, with the classic smoke coming from the stage as he opened with Get the F**k off my dick. A few local Vancouver acts that stood out were Goldstepz and Angst who both put on strong performances with crazy energy and great audience engagement.

Alina Baraz ended the evening off by captivating her audience with some of her most popular slow jams, and had everyone swaying and in almost a gaze watching her sing with such beautiful and dreamy vocals. The final act, Anderson .Paak took the stage with his band, The Free Nationals and absolutely killed it not just vocally but also on the drums for a large portion of the evening. Many came just to see him that night.
